My new (used) Felicity has just arrived and she is beautiful! I took a chance on a BIN with very little information. I just had a feeling and I was right. She is definitely pre-Mattell.

Her hair is just lovely, but it does have a slight musty smell. Not something that a normal person would probably bother with, but I have a very sensitive nose. I am wondering if there is something I could do that wasn't particularly invasive, like the sun, charcoal, baking soda??
My husband suggested Febreeze but I think that would smell worse.

Any suggestions?

Hmmm...must means mold. Possibly her wig base is moldy. I guess it's a case of either living with the mold and masking the scent or trying to get rid of the mold.

It isn't mold. I am highly allergic to mold and mildew and even the tiniest wiff sends me into an asthma attack. Like I said, normal people wouldn't even notice this smell. It isn't her body or her head, it is just her hair. It smells kind of like a closed up room after you return from a weekend away. I have the feeling that she has been in storage for awhile. Possibly just leaving her out in the fresh air will do the trick, but I am impatient.

If you can, set her out in the sun and fresh air for a day or two. That should take care of it!

The only charcoal trick I'm aware of is set up for books. I'm not too sure you could make it work with a doll.

Thank you! I think that is a great idea. I wish I could put her out right now, but it is very dark. I don't want a neighbor cat to get her. I told you I was impatient. LOL The smell has already lessened just since I took her out of her box. I am wondering now if the smell was actually from the carboard box she came in (not an AG box.)

Something else you might want to try is rubbing her hair with a dryer sheet (if you don't mind the smell, that is ) It also tames any flyaways too!

I too have a lethal allergy to mold ( I have seizures upon the tiniest whiff) and if it did have mold, the body would smell too.

I would spray lysol on a washcloth and wipe down her hair, then leave her in a well ventilated area to air out.

Congratulations!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Thank you! I felt quite decadent hitting that BIN button and I have been feeling rather guilty ever since. Of course now that she is here with her bright shining face, I am VERY glad that I got her.

My daughter already has a Felicity and we weren't going to duplicate, but my daughter's doll has another name and a very non-Felicity wardrobe. I think that means that I "needed" to get my own Felicity. LOL - Since we live in Virginia, it is practically my civic duty.
